![]() I'm going to set this up in my kitchen as a recipe server. The industry responded by attempting to sue filesharing service Napster and the copycat services that came in its wake: litigation rather than innovation. ![]() It seems odd tha the cable costs more than the laptop. I paid $10 for the Powerbook at a garage sale and the adapter was free (thanks to Alex R). ![]() PS the ironic part of this is the $30 SCSI cable. Thanks for everyones help and for the freebies! I attached the SCSI / Ethernet adapter installed the software (drivers) and set up tcp/ ip for my network and voila! It works! I had to find an ancient version of netscape but I had a copy of 4.2 on an old modem CD-Rom I had lying around so I was good to go. When I finised the powerbook booted from the CD! I upgraded 7.6 to 7.6.1 added some software (including "the Grouch"!) and shutdown. I ignored the install me first floppy and just installed. Of course System 7.1 doesn't know a CD-Rom from a hole in the ground and I couldn't get the 7.6.1 CD I own to boot. ![]() I decieded to attach a SCSI CD-ROM to the laptop so I went out to Above All and bought a cable off of them for $30 to achieve this. Turns out (of course) that the install me first floppy is hosed. I decided the best solution wopuld be to upgrate to 7.6 (because I have a set of original floppies). The software tha came with it had 3 presets that were incompatible with my network. ![]() Since it had system 7.1 on it it didn't handle the adapter very well. Well I got the free SCSI / Ethernet adapter from Alex R (thank you again) and hooked it up to my ancient mac. ![]()
